Rosh Chodesh literally translates to “Head of the Month” and is the name of the celebration of each new Jewish month. The word chodesh comes from the root word which means “new” and indeed, each new Jewish month begins with a new moon. It is important to note that in the Jewish tradition a new moon is when you can see only the slightest sliver of the moon, not when it is completely absent from the sky.
